My Reflection of Industry of the Ordinary

My Reflection of Industry of the Ordinary

After I visited the Industry of the Ordinary, I was shocked and surprised a little bit. I did not realized that such the daily necessities could be art works. Toys, cups, cloths, monitors can be a art works. But while I was seeing the art works, I was being confusion. Because the art works in the museum were very abstract and profound things, I could not appreciate the art works well. Of course, all art works have some meanings. I think that some art works allowed me to remind of my youth memories such as lego people, monitors and so on. And the artificial pond which located in nearby entrance makes me to think about nature with modern art. So after I finished seeing the show, I found my insight on abstract art works. I will improve my art appreciate skills by seeing various art works.

Wonseop's Reflection of MCA

Reflection of MCA

I went to the Museum of Contemporary Art with my classmates.  When I saw the first art work which located in front of the museum called MOTHERS, I thought about my mom who lives in my country.  After we entered to the museum, we saw the Andy Warhol’s film.  But I didn’t understand about a meaning of the film.  There was just Empire State Building in the film. Also, it was just static film with grey color.  So I was not interested in the film, even though the film was made by Andy Warhol.  The most interesting art work for me is the “Portable City”. The Portable City is made of carriers and some fabrics.  In the carrier, there are famous cities of the world including Chicago.  It portrayed the cities very specifically.  This is a photo of the work.

I did some activities with my partner Jing. We shared some information about various art works and took some pictures. Also, we build a skyline with Jing by attaching some colorful plastic papers. It was cool and we had a good time.  Through this activity, I have improved my insight about contemporary art.

Chapter 3: Themes

This painting's name is "Rice Threshing"(1786) by Korean painter called Hong Do Kim. I chose the theme; Looking Outward: The Here And Now because I like paintings that depict our daily life and I want to learn about my ancestor's daily life. This painting depicts citizen's daily life during 18 century. The farmers in the painting work hard in order to earn some money. And the man who lay down on the bunch of rice by smoking is looking the farmers relaxedly. This atmosphere is natural phenomenon in this era. And the painter depicted farmers' face and dynamic motion specifically just like "Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Silk" in our textbook page 60. So we can imagine that many farmers who lived in Korea during 18 century worked hard and were active people.

My Architectural Experience

My memorable building is the Nam Dae Moon that is a national treasure in South Korea. I chose the building because I have terrible memory in my mind.

Few years ago, the Nam Dae Moon was destroyed by fire. An old man caused the fire because he complained about economy condition to government. Because the Nam Dae Moon was composed of woods except bottom shelf, the building was destroyed shortly. At that time, almost Korean people were in sorrow becasuse the Nam Dae Moon was a very symbolic building to them.

After that day, the government started to rebuild the Nam Dae Moon. And many citizens applied for supporter who would help to rebuild. And I applied the supporter too. So I supported lots of works in order to rebuild the building as quickly as possible. During supporting activity, I realized that we have to preserve all national treasures carefully. So the building gave me a precious lesson in my life.

I hope the Nam Dae Moon will complete in next year. And it will be the most beautiful national treasure in South Korea. I can't wait to see the building!!!

Art I Like!

I want to introduce the painting that I like to my classmates. It is A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. This was painted by Georges Seurat in 1884. And this painting is exhibited in The Art Institute of Chicago. So if you are interested in this painting, you can see the painting in The Art Institute of Chicago in which located nearby millenium park.

This painting has bright colors and soft curves. Also, its atmosphere is very calm and peaceful.
That's why I like this painting. If you see this painting directly, you can find an interesting aspect. It is that the painting is composed of various colorful dots. The unique aspect is my favorite merit. The lots of colorful dots made an interesting master piece. Such an awesome!
